The Fifth IAA International Conference on Low-Cost Planetary Missions is intended to provide a forum for scientists, engineers, managers, and agency representatives to exchange information and present new ideas about small-scale planetary missions.
Several important milestones in terms of low-cost planetary exploration will be achieved within the next few years, including the following missions:

The Conference will focus on the latest developments and the future outlook for low-cost planetary programmes. A specific goal of the Conference is to expand cooperative efforts throughout the global scientific community. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

The Registration Fee for participants registering before 1 August 2003 will be 450 Euros. It will cover conference admission, programme materials, Abstract Book, a copy of the post-Conference Proceedings, banquet, refreshment breaks, and a special issue of Acta Astronautica (Journal of the Academy).After 1 August 2003, the Registration Fee will be 490 Euros.
Papers are solicited both on practical applications and on the basic science needed for small-scale planetary missions. Content must relate to one of the areas of interest listed overleaf in the programme overview. Approximately 100 contributed papers will be chosen for Oral Presentation, and the remainder will be presented during Poster Sessions.
Abstracts should be no longer than one page and should be clearly written to allow the Programme Committee to make an informed decision regarding the proposed paper’s suitability for inclusion at the Conference. The Abstract should be in English and typed in a format suitable for reproduction on 21.5 by 28 cm paper (8 by 11 inches).

All authors will be notified of the Programme Committee’s decision by 5 May 2003. The Proceedings of the Conference will be published as an ESA Special Publication. Author instructions for the preparation and submission of the cameraready papers (limited to 8 pages for contributed papers, 12 pages for invited papers) will be distributed (to the first-listed author on the Abstract) by ESA Publications Division in May 2003, following the decision by the Programme Committee.
The IAA Conference Announcement giving full details of the programme, registration procedures, facilities, accommodation, etc., will be mailed on 6 June 2003.
